Winona Whitehorn, a cherished mother, dedicated nurse, and vibrant spirit, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2024, in Skiatook, Oklahoma, at the age of 79. Born on November 28, 1944, in Tyler, Texas, Winona's early years were steeped in the warmth of southern hospitality and community.
Growing up, Winona was known for her bright mind and compassionate heart. These qualities shone through when she graduated from Tulsa Central High School, where she formed lifelong friendships and a foundation for her future endeavors. Her pursuit of knowledge and a desire to care for others led her to attend Oklahoma Junior College, a decision that carved the path for her meaningful career in the nursing field.
Winona dedicated her life to the well-being of others, working tirelessly as a live-in nurse. She provided comfort and care to countless individuals, touching many lives with her kindness and unwavering dedication. Her work was not just a job; it was a calling that she fulfilled with love and excellence. Winona's commitment to her profession was paralleled by her involvement in various associations, where she advocated for the betterment of nursing practices and patient care.
Outside of her professional life, Winona embraced the joy of exploration and culture. Traveling was one of her greatest passions, as she believed that every new place held a story waiting to be discovered. Winona's adventurous spirit took her to destinations far and wide, but she found equal delight in the simple pleasure of visiting different eateries, where she savored the flavors of the world one bite at a time.

Family was the cornerstone of Winona's life. She is survived by her loving son, Sango E. Whitehorn Sr., and her daughter, Taima L. Young, six grandchildren, one great grandson, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Winona's role as a mother was imbued with the same care and nurturing she gave to her patients. She instilled in her family and friends the values of kindness, perseverance, and the importance of cherishing every moment.
Winona's legacy is one of love, service, and the pursuit of joy in all its forms. Her memory will continue to inspire those who knew her and were impacted by her generous spirit. As we bid farewell to Winona Whitehorn, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with purpose, passion, and the warmth of countless memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of crossing her path.
