LaDonna Sue Jones, a cherished wife, mother and daughter known for her fierce care and devotion, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2024 after a lengthy battle with heart disease. Born July 27, 1937, Sue, as she was known, lived a life filled with tremendous passion for home and family, accomplishment and adventure.
Born near Skiatook, OK to Betty Ruth (Harlow) and John Paul Daly, she lived with both sets of Grandparents in Skiatook and Arkansas before reuniting with her mother in Tulsa. After graduating from Central High School, she enrolled at the University of Tulsa to study psychology. While attending university she worked at the Tulsa Library. A chance meeting with fellow employee - and TU student, Robert “Bob” Jones changed her destiny, launching her into her most fulfilling roles: Wife and Mother.
The couple married June 8, 1962. They travelled across the country and over oceans following Bob’s military career. Along the way they welcomed three beloved children: Elizabeth, Robert and Paul “Tony”. Whether Bob was stationed nearby or across the globe Sue channeled her energy, entrepreneurial talents and determination into her home and family with exceptional devotion and steadfastness. Her moxie belied lack of experience as she navigated both “Mom” and “Dad” roles while Bob served overseas. She conceived her children’s lives filled with education, music, literature and self-determination. To that end, she reflected those traits in her own behavior. For example, anyone who knew her, knew her disdain for cooking, often remarking “reservations” were her favorite dish to make. Yet, she prepared three meals a day for 20 years because it served her family’s interests. She was not personally musical but made sure each child played the piano and at least one other instrument. She listened to countless practice hours without a trace of boredom or frustration. All three of their children graduated college. Sue had a lively wit, enjoyed playing games and entertaining during the holidays. She also enjoyed shopping and the occasional Las Vegas trip with her mom Betty and Aunt Bea. Sue was an excellent sounding board and truly an “Acts of Service” person who would help paint a room, plant flowers or watch your pet. Towards the end of her life, she often stated how proud she was of her children and the life she and Bob made. She ended every conversation with “I love you, love you, love you”.
While we miss her terribly, we take comfort knowing her suffering is relieved. She’s once again reunited with those who proceeded her: Betty Overton (Mother), Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, her sister-in-law Karen Overton and her youngest son Paul “Tony” Jones. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years Bob Jones, son and daughter-in-law Robert and Cynthia Jones and daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth and Charles Spillar, brother Paul Overton, nephew P3 and family, her cousins and “adopted” son Louis Riley.
