Funeral services for Rhodena Laura Thornton will be held at 12:00 Friday, September 13, 2013 at the Skiatook Christian Church with Pastor Trey Harper, officiating. Interment followed in the Osage gardens Cemetery under the direction of the Sien-Shelton Funeral Home.

Rhodena Laura Thornton , age 74, of Skiatook, died at 12:14 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa.

Rhodena was born February 4, 1939 in Hominy, Oklahoma to Leonard M. and Josephine Elizabeth (Ridge) McFee. Rhodena grew up and received her education in the Mound Valley School near Hominy. Rhodena married William Henry Thornton on November 27, 1959 in Sedan, Kansas making their home in Oregon, New Mexico, Texas and moved to Skiatook in June of 1971 where they have made their home  since that time. Rhodena was a Med Aid with the Nursing Homes in Tulsa, Collinsville and Skiatook retiring do to health problems in October of 1998. Rhodena liked working with ceramics, reading, going to the casino, family and enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren.

Rhodena was preceded in death by her mother and father and by two brothers.

Rhodena is survived by her husband William Henry Thornton of the home, four children; Richard Lewis Elledge of Owasso, Pamela Louise Brown of Ardmore, Stephen William Thornton of Tulsa and Sissy Hand of Skiatook, one sister; Kelly Jo McKenzie of Muskogee, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Music for the services; “The Old Rugged Cross”, “In The Garden” and “When I Get To Where I’m Going”.

Casket escorts are: Richard Elledge, Stephen Thornton, Stephen Thornton II, Richard Elledge Jr. Justin Whinery and Matt Elledge.
