Randal Joe Johnson, a dedicated professional tuba player and beloved family man, passed away on March 12, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born on September 24, 1963, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Donald Campbell and Virginia Nadine (Fields) Johnson. Graduating from Doherty High School in Colorado Springs, he went to the University of Colorado to study music, before joining the United States Army and earning his Associates Degree from the University of Maryland. While in the Army, he performed with the United States Army Band, performing at functions around the world. It was also in the Army where he met his wife, Charla Louise (Buck) Johnson. He served his country honorably until his discharge in 1991.
Randal had a love for music that he carried with him throughout his life. He was an active participant in several musical groups where he played tuba, including the German American Society Band in Tulsa, the Tulsa Peoples' Orchestra, and the Silver Top Brass Quintet. His contributions to these bands showcased not only his skill but also his deep appreciation for the art of music.
Outside of music, Randal had a variety of interests that enriched his life. He was an avid football card collector and enjoyed spending his leisure time fishing. Most importantly, Randal cherished every moment spent with his family, creating lasting memories that are treasured by those who knew him.
Randal was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Virginia Johnson, whose legacy will live on through their children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Charla; his two children, Jacqueline and Samuel Johnson; two sisters, Judy Haigh and her husband Mike, and Susan Campbell; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends who will mourn his passing and celebrate his memory.
Randal Joe Johnson will be remembered for his dedication to his family, musical talent, and exemplary service to his country. His legacy will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known him.
