Mary Irene Stewart, née Davis, 84 years, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2020 after a brief illness. She was born in Tulsa, OK on April 12, 1936 to Harold E. and Linnie (Upton) Davis. Mary grew up in Tulsa, OK alongside her brother, Harold Edward Davis Jr. (“Eddie”), and sister, Donna Lou (Davis) Randall. From an early age she developed talents in music, art, and dance that would become lifelong passions. She graduated from Central High School in 1954 where she met David Edward Stewart. They married on August 13, 1955 and raised two sons together: Douglas Wayne and Dean Wallace. Mary worked outside the home as a bookkeeper for a number of small, independent petroleum producers and as an antique dealer. Additionally, she shared her love of music by teaching piano to generations of students in Skiatook. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her love of animals; her prodigious talents in painting, music, dance, and cooking; and most especially for her devotion to her family. Mary is survived by her husband of 65 years, David Edward Stewart, as well as their elder son: Douglas Wayne Stewart and his wife, Lori Battenfield Stewart. She leaves behind six grandchildren: Samuel Jefferson Stewart, Maxwell Scott Stewart, Tyler Warren Stewart, Mary Grace Stewart, Jackson Brent Stewart, and Sophia Elizabeth Stewart. She is also survived by one great-grandson, Dean Hudson Stewart. She is predeceased by her siblings (Eddie and Donna Lou), her younger son, Dean, and one grandson, Bennett Battenfield Stewart. Mary will be dearly missed for her selfless spirit, vivacity, and the sheer joy she carried with her and generously shared with all who had the good fortune of knowing her.
