OBITUARY OF MARION J. THOMPSON
(November 17, 1930-March 17, 2024)
Marion J Thompson was born on November 17, 2030, in the town of Nowata, Oklahoma, to Eva Vernon Thompson and Stonewall “Wally” Thompson. He leaves his wife, Mildred Hanna Thompson, his son Ronald Thompson (Deann), and his two grandsons Jeffrey Thompson (Jennifer) and Joe Thompson, also of Skiatook. Also surviving are his son Burt Thompson (Grace) of Tulsa, grandson Steven Thompson (Heather) of Lathrop, Missouri, and granddaughter Jennifer Hall (Jason) of Florida. He leaves his sister Martha Thompson Barra of Ukiah, California. There are also several surviving great-grandchildren. Marion passed away on March 17, 2024, at Barnsdall, Ok, at the age of 93.
Marion worked for many years in Finley, Ohio as a salesman for heavy equipment manufacturer GarWood. He later moved his family to Dallas, Texas, where he continued as a salesman for GarWood’s garbage trucks and other heavy equipment. His next job was working for Midwestern Equipment in Tulsa, where he was required to travel to Southeast Asia to give instruction on the operation of gas and oil pipeline equipment that Midwestern had sold.
He was an artist in his own right, using his talents to carve exquisite gun stocks, wood animals, and other creative expressions. Marion thrived on being in the outdoors, and he instilled in his children and grandchildren the love of hunting and fishing. He was also an accomplished musician, being proficient in playing guitar, mandolin, and banjo. His voice was appreciated by all who heard him. Marion had his own band for many years, and in his later years, would play at senior retirement homes around Tulsa and Skiatook to entertain the residents.
