Mariella Watson-Woessner
Funeral services will be held for Mariella Watson-Woessner at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church of Skiatook. The Reverend Dale Nielson will officiate. Interment will follow at the Osage Gardens Cemetery under the direction of the Sien-Shelton Funeral Home.
Mariella, age 80, passed peacefully on Friday, February 22 at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Mariella was born July 23, 1932 in Skiatook, Oklahoma to L.E. “Cotton” and Ruth Crain. Mariella was raised on the family dairy farm in Skiatook with her brother Ben. The brother and sister would walk the half-mile to the bus stop each day, passing the homes of uncles, aunts and cousins the entire way. Mariella finished her formal education at Skiatook High School in 1950. She celebrated her senior year as the Homecoming Queen.
Mariella married Duane “Red” Watson in 1950, and the couple raised three children, Gary, Danny, and Loralann in Skiatook. Her family was treated to her wonderful cooking talents, including pies, cakes, baked apples and, of course, chili before Friday night high school football games. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing dresses and twirler uniforms for her daughter and rock and roll band wardrobes for her son.
Mariella worked for 27 years at the Skiatook Osteopathic Clinic where her love for people and caring spirit were always on display. After retiring, she moved to Edmond, OK to be closer to her 5 grandchildren. “Meme,” as she was called by her grandchildren, was loved by all, but especially by her grandchildren. They will cherish wonderful memories of their “Meme,” who joined them on family trips to Disney World and the Gulf of Mexico.
“Meme” was an avid football fan, but she was particularly fond of the OU Sooners. She was a season ticket holder for years; and when she could no longer attend the games, she could be found cheering on the Crimson and Cream in front of the TV, surrounded by her family. Her annual regret was the last football game of the year because after that game – “There is nothing to watch!”
Mariella was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband, and son, Danny.
Mariella, Mom, Meme, Sister is survived by her brother Ben Crain and his wife Mary of Kansas City; son and daughter–in-law Gary and Bonnie Watson of Ardmore; daughter and son-in-law Loralann and Shawn Brennan of Edmond; grandchildren Lucas Watson of Norman, Erin Watson-Cook of Moore, Michael Watson of Norman, Sydney Brennan of Edmond and Patrick Brennan of Edmond; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be remembered and missed by many friends in Skiatook and Edmond whom she loved.
Music for the service will included “Jesus Loves Me,” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.”
Casket escorts for the service will be her nephews Ben Crain of St. Louis, Tom Crain of Kansas City, Erin’s husband Matt Cook and her grandsons, Lucas, Michael, and Patrick.
