Maggie Lee McGill, 81, left this life to be with the Lord on January 4, 2020. She passed peacefully at her home, surrounded by family and friends.
Maggie was born on June 27, 1938, to Woodrow Albert “Bruce” and Flora Jane (Poor) Saulsbury in Salinas, California. The family moved to Tulsa when Maggie was 13, and she graduated East Central High School in 1956, earning the distinction of being class Salutatorian. She met Eugene Curtis McGill in junior high school, and by high school knew he was the love of her life. The two were married while students at Northeastern State University in 1958.
Maggie and Gene made their home in Tahlequah, then Tulsa, before moving to Skiatook in 1965. They raised a family, while Maggie continued her professional development, earning her Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Education and Language Arts in 1971 from the University of Tulsa. She taught more than 20 years at Marrs Elementary in Skiatook and was named Skiatook Teacher of the Year in 1989. Maggie received her Master of Arts Degree with an emphasis in Diagnostic Reading from TU in 1978, and she was the Certified Psychometrist for Skiatook Public Schools until her retirement in 1997.
Maggie was a devoted member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Skiatook, and throughout her career she taught Sunday School, Bible Studies, gave devotionals, and was always available to assist where needed at church receptions and dinners, hosting many dinners in her home as well. Along with her love for her family and students, Maggie loved gardening, reading, cooking, sewing, various crafts, and visiting her grandchildren at every opportunity.
