In the early morning of January 15, 2017, surrounded by family, Jack passed away peacefully. Loyd “Jack” and twin brother Floyd “Gene” were born in Springfield, Colorado, on April 17, 1928. He was the thirteenth child of Grover and Laura. Jack grew up in Pritchett, Colorado and took much pride in playing basketball at Pritchett High. He and his brothers and friends won many trophies. Following the example of their older brothers, Jack and his twin brother Gene entered the military on November 13, 1946. He was honorably discharged from the Army on March 17, 1948. In 1952 he met Evelyn Sue Matlock in Bunch, Oklahoma. They were married on Saint Patrick’s Day in 1953. Jack begin his employment as a carpenter and later became a welder working at the John Zinc Steel Plant in Skiatook. Jack was one of the best pool players in Northeastern Oklahoma. This talent provided him much enjoyment and earned him many trophies. He enjoyed fishing and watching sports.
Jack is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Sue, son Dennis and his wife Sharon, and daughter Leah. He was “Poppy” to his grandchildren: Kate and her husband Chris, Brandon, Anna, Tim, Lane, Gabe, April and her husband Michael, Lauryn, Luke, Summer, Autumn, T.J. and to the many DHS children who resided in their home.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, son Eddie Jack and daughter Brenda, grandson Joseph Jayden, twelve brothers, and two sisters.
The family would like to express our deep appreciation and gratitude for the wonderful care given to our Dad while he was a resident at the Claremore Veteran’s Center. Dad’s days on earth were assuredly extended through their care and medical assistance provided for him.
