Kenneth Harrison Jones, age 94, of Chouteau, Oklahoma went to be with his Lord and Savior at 6:45 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2024 in Sperry.
Kenneth Harrison Jones was born on February 10, 1930 in Muskogee, Ok to Oliver Russell Jones and Ina Mae (Wilson) Jones.
The family made their home in Turley, where he attended Cherokee School, and later graduated from Tulsa Central High School. During a gym class at Central he and another student were instructed to run around the entire perimeter of Oaklawn Cemetery at 11th and Peoria. The boys turned in that day what would prove to be the record time for that exercise. Never mind the fact that they jumped the fence, ran across the grave yard, jumped the other fence and appeared exhausted at the finish line. I’m sure that record still stands today.
Kenneth married Patsy Ruth Young on December 3, 1951 in Rogers, Arkansas. They made their home in Tulsa, where in January of 1953 they welcomed the birth of their only son, Kenneth Harrison Jones, II.
Kenneth “showed up” to American Airlines for 30 years to collect a paycheck and took an early retirement at age 55. While complaining to a friend that he had nothing to do now, the friend suggested that he build a Stagecoach….a full sized Stagecoach. Armed with a tape measure and a scratch pad, he journeyed to Oklahoma City to visit the Cowboy Hall of Fame. After another “fence jumping maneuver”, he lay under the coach on display getting measurements for his project. That would be the first of seventeen coaches he would build. The last one was left unfinished, but he worked on it even in the last months of his life.
Kenneth was an avid Hunter and especially loved the Colorado Rocky Mountain landscape. Hunting trips began in tents, progressed to campers, trailers, and finally, the purchase of property in Pagosa Springs, where he built his “Happy Place”.
Kenneth was a licensed pilot, and made his first flight on June 30, 1946. He owned many planes over the years, including one he purchased at the ripe old age of 91.
A few years ago he discovered that he, in fact, had a daughter. They connected and remained close for the rest of his life.
Kenneth loved life and was a ‘People Person” He loved nothing more than being around his friends. He loved his little dog, Buddy, who became his constant companion after the loss of his wife, Pat.
Kenneth served in The United States Marine Corps. He was a Ham Radio operator and spent countless hours talking to people around the world. He was a loyal and faithful member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, served as President of Pryor Lions Club, and attended First Baptist Church of Chouteau.
He was proceeded in Death by his parents, O.R. and Ina Mae Jones, his wife Patsy Ruth Jones, and two Brothers, Rusell O. Jones, and Malcolm L. Jones. He is survived by his son, Kenny and wife Donna Cheryl of Sperry, a daughter, Julie Rennisen of Jackson Hole, Wy, sister, Eleanor Horen and husband Wes of Sun City, AZ., Two Granddaughters, Janna Farrell Jones and her fiance’, Brad Shimmack of Sperry, and Kendra Lane Hendren and her husband Mike of Owasso, Two amazing Great Grandchildren, Aiden Michael Hendren and Ava Lane Hendren of Owasso, a very special niece, Janie Lou Gonzales, and a host of other family members and friends.
Kenneth will be lovingly remembered by all those who crossed paths with him here below. No longer in pain, I’m pretty sure he’s telling Jesus he can help with the music selections in heaven.
