John David “JD” Maddox

Funeral services for JD Maddox will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church with Gary Butler and Rev. Susan Whitley officiating. Interment will follow in the Osage Gardens Cemetery under the direction of the Sien-Shelton Funeral Home.

JD Maddox, age 82, of Skiatook, died at 1:34 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.

JD was born March 13, 1931 in Skiatook to J.E. and Mae (Pace) Maddox. JD grew up and received his education in Skiatook graduating with the class of 1950. JD also had attended Miami Jr. College. JD married Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Jones on September 15, 1951 in Van Buren, Arkansas and they made their home in Skiatook. JD entered into the United States Army on March 26, 1952 where he served in the Korean Conflict  and received his honorable discharge on April 10, 1954. JD liked to play golf and fish. JD served as Mayor of the Town Of Skiatook from 1990 to 1991 and served on the Town Board Of Trustees. JD also served on the Skiatook Public Schools School Board. JD Coached baseball and took his team to Pony League College World Championship Series in 1965.
JD was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion and the Retired Firefighters Association.

JD was preceded in death by his mother and father, one sister Betty Brown.

JD is survived by his wife Betty of the home, three sons: John David Maddox Jr. and wife Maureen of Modesto, California, Roy Guest Maddox and Tracie Ward of Bixby and Edward Alan Maddox and wife Sonja of Bixby, six grandchildren: Jennifer Maddox, Russell Maddox, Michael Maddox, Auree Skye Maddox, Avery Ketchum and Adison Ketchum and a host of other relatives and friends.

Music for the services: “Sweet Beulah Land” preformed by: Sonja Maddox “Old Rugged Cross” preformed by: Heather Jolley.

Casket escorts for the services are: Jerry Hensley, Don Leach, Bill Turner, Terry Rutledge, Robbie Thompson and Dick Cagle. Honorary escorts are: Stanley E. Hawkins and Woody McKenzie.
