Funeral services for John L. Brown Jr. were held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2016 at the Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry. Interment will follow in the Rest Haven Cemetery under the direction of the Sien-Shelton Funeral Home.

John L. Brown Jr., age 91, of Skiatook, died at 11:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2016 in Coffeyville, Kansas.

John was born September 17, 1924 in Sperry, Oklahoma to John L. and Pearl (Smyth) Brown. John grew up and received his education in Sperry where he graduated in 1947. John entered into the United States Army on July 15, 1943 and received his honorable discharge on November 5, 1945. John also later served in the Korean War. John married Betty Lou Maddox on March 15, 1947 in Skiatook where they had made their home. John was employed with the United States Postal Service where he was a letter carried in downtown Tulsa for 33 years before retiring.

John was preceded in death by his mother and father, wife Betty, one daughter: Patricia Mathia, one son: John L. brown III and by one brother Charles Brown.

John is survived by his granddaughters: Bonnie Mathia and Tessa Mathia and by one cousin Reba “Sissy” Cox and husband Don.
