JAMES VAUGHN HAYS


Funeral services for James Hays will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013 at the Immanuel Baptist Church with Jerry Dobbs, officiating. Interment will be private family under the direction of the Sien-Shelton Funeral Home.

James Vaughn Hays, age 80, of Sperry, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa.

James was born on February 21, 1933 in Nelagoney, Oklahoma to James Olen and Charletta G. (Selby) Hays. He grew up and received his education in Skiatook, graduating in 1951. James married Ooweetha Ardell Greece on February 11, 1956 in Pawhuska and made their home in Sperry most of married life. He was a life time truck driver for Santa Fe, Ryder and TOX. His hobbies were gardening, woodcarving, fishing, garage sales, grandkids, watchmaking and making walking canes. James was a member of the  American Legion and Immanuel Baptist Church.

James was preceded in death by his mother and father, wife and brother John.

James is survived by his children: Fawn Hays of Sperry and Jamie Jordan of Sperry, grand daughters: Dakota Loyd and husband Brandon of Sperry and Melody Jordan of Sperry, brother: Charles Hays and wife Phyllis of Skiatook, sister: Shirley Sweeten of Bartlesville and many nieces and nephews.

Music for the service: “Blessings“ and “Wouldn’t Take Nothing For My Journey Now”.

Casket escorts for the service will be Johnie Bradford, Gene Jones, Bill Monforte, Kevin Paslay, Milton McCrary and Sterling Doss. Honorary casket escorts: Pete Roberson, Bob Eversole, Ralph Hendryx, Dale Toedt, Morris Neighbors, George Davis and Gene McGill.
