Jack Lee Barber

Jack Lee Barber went to be with the Lord on June 29, 2022, with family gathered around him. Jack was born January 28, 1930, in Tulsa, OK to Leo Garnett Barber and Gertrude Marie Martin. He was raised in Wolco and Avant, OK by his grandparents, George W. Martin and Maude Viola Martin who were his “Mom and Pop”. He also lived a short time with his aunt and uncle, Naomi Martin McClure and Clifford McClure.

On May 21, 1949, Jack married Dorothy Killion of Hillside in Bartlesville, OK.  They have been married for 73 years.  After their marriage Jack worked on dairy farms and the Texas oilfields until he was drafted into the military. Jack entered the United States Marine Corp in 1951 and was discharged in 1954. Jack and Dorothy then returned to the Skiatook area and raised their family at their current residence.

Jack worked at R.J.Greenwood and Co. in Skiatook and later worked for Otasco in Tulsa.  When his son, Paul, opened a Texaco in Skiatook, Jack enjoyed working around the gas station helping in any way he could. In his leisure time, Jack enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking and planting a small garden every year.

Jack gave his heart and life to the Lord in 1963 at the Church of God and was baptized in 1965. He was a faithful member of the Church of God and served in various capacities such as, superintendent, Sunday School teacher, and Pastors Council. He also helped in different phases of remodeling and building the church.

Jack was preceded in death by his son, Gary Lee Barber, who passed in infancy. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Maude Martin, Aunt and Uncle, Naomi and Clifford McClure, Aunt, Faye Berry, and his birth mother, Gertrude Martin.

Jack is survived by his wife, Dorothy Barber, of the home.

Son, Alan Barber and wife Carlene, of Hampton, VA.

Son, Paul Barber of Skiatook.

Daughter Judy Hughes, and husband Robert, of Brunswick, MD.

Grandchildren:  Shawna Peelman and husband, Wane, Jody Tweedy and husband Robert, Scott Barber and wife, Becca.

Great grandchildren: Shelbi Peelman, Denver Peelman, and Campbell Tweedy.

Great great granddaughter:  Oaklynn Peelman.

Sisters:  Mila Murrie and husband David, and Ellen Nixon.

He is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends.

The family would like to provide a special thank you to Paul Barber who has tirelessly provided years of care and devotion for Dad and Mom.  We cannot begin to express how much we appreciate you Paul.

Also, a special thank you to granddaughter, Jody Tweedy, who provided exceptional care for Dad during his final days.

We would also like to thank Good Shepherd Hospice and nurse, Kim Alexander, for there care during the past month.
