Born on August 8, 1952, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Virgil and Helen (Spencer) Sappington, Gary's early years were rooted in the warmth of a close-knit family. A proud graduate of McClain High School in 1970, Gary's pursuit of knowledge led him to further his education in Missouri. His academic journey was a testament to his belief in the power of learning and personal growth. On October 17, 1989, Gary married the love of his life, Terri Lynn Hale, in Miami, Oklahoma. Together, they built a loving home in Avant, where they spent 25 cherished years. Gary was a man of many talents and a strong work ethic. In the winter months, he applied his skills as a welder at the Tulsa Bus Plant, and when summer came, he transitioned to carpentry, a trade where he could express his creativity and craftsmanship. His professional life was marked by dedication and a commitment to excellence. His personal interests painted the picture of a man who loved the simple pleasures in life. Gary was often found at the sale barns, indulging in the excitement of the auction. He was an avid fisherman, finding peace and solitude by the water's edge. Gary's passion for collecting baseball cards was more than a hobby; it was a window into the history and nostalgia of America's favorite pastime. Above all, Gary's greatest joy came from the time spent with his family, where love and laughter were always abundant.
Gary's legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Terri Sappington; his children, Jared Sappington and Amy Bley, along with her husband Austin; his brother, Gerald Sappington; and his adored grandchild, Amelia Kate Bley and his father, Virgil Sappington.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Sappington; his sister, Donna Spicer. Gary also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends, all of whom were touched by his kindness, generosity, and jovial spirit.
Those who knew Gary will remember him for his unwavering love for his family, his sense of humor, and the warmth of his companionship.
