Dorothy June (Street) Turner, age 95, of Avant went to be with her Lord and Savior at 7:31 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2024, at her Avant residence.
Dorothy June (Street) Turner was the sixth of ten children born to Dulcie and Clifford Street. She was welcomed to the world on June 20, 1928. Dorothy was married to Robert (Buss) Turner November 22, 1943, until his passing March 18, 2000. The couple made their home in Avant, Oklahoma, where they raised three daughters. While Buss worked as an aviation mechanic, Dorothy was known as the “Avon Lady” as she sold Avon products to family, friends, and neighbors for over 25 years.
Dorothy was well known for her desserts, especially her bread pudding and pecan pies. She had a passion for gospel and bluegrass music. Her musical talents extended to playing the guitar, the mandolin, the fiddle, and classical violin. Along with her husband, Robert, her daughters Esta and Marie and Marie’s husband John Gann the family traveled and played bluegrass music at festivals and events for many years. Later Dorothy joined sister Shirley Cornet and the band Umy and the Goodtimers. Together they frequently played at Silver Dollar City and Six Flags over Texas and other venues, sharing a love for music. Dorothy was an accomplished seamstress. She put this skill to use with the costumes for various musical events. It should come as no surprise that she was talented at making elegant crochet items for family and friends to cherish.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Dulcie Street, husband Robert “Buss” Turner, four brothers, four sisters, her daughter Esta Hadley, and granddaughter Laura Hadley.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters Marie Gann of Avant, OK, Roberts Hicks of Owasso, OK, brother Floyd Street of Loveland, CO, eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, fourteen great-great grandchildren, multiple nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Music selections are “I’ll Fly Away”, “One Day At A Time” and Amazing Grace”.
Pallbearers are Devon Knoche, Seth Carter, Jonah Carter, Noah Carter, Dakota Belk, Dustin Cornet and Logan Davis.
