Cliff Goines, age 80, of Skiatook, died at 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at his Skiatook residence.
Born April 8, 1935 in Leonard, Oklahoma
He was born to James Harrison and Lizzie (Horton) Goines. He was the baby of the family. He had 6 brothers and 1 sister who have all preceeded him in death. Brothers were Clinton Otis (Curley) Goines and wife Dorothy, Olen Emanuel (Toad) Goines, Leonard Edward (Son) Goines and wife Betty, Lloyd Aro Goines and wife Pearl, Damon Earl Goines, Jim Bob Goines, and sister Sybil Alene Goines Frasil and husband Ray.
He married Emma Lee Reynolds July 27, 1953 and was employed with John Zink Company and worked at the Tulsa plant on Peoria. They attended the Bixby FreeWill Baptist Church. On August 27, 1954 they had a daughter Nona Lee Goines. Cliff always told everyone he wanted a Girl and he got one. John Zink opened a plant in Skiatook Oklahoma and transferred him to Skiatook in 1967 where since then they have made their home. While living in Skiatook they attended Northside FreeWill Baptist Church until he helped start the church in Skiatook in 1968. When first starting they would have services in his home and the home of Rev. Jim Haas until they got the land and building. He was still a member of the Skiatook church where he has served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and song leader.
He was diagnosed with his cancer in 1994 and fought it for many years. Cliff loved to travel. Everyone always said he was named right cause he was always going. They had travel trailers and he could hardly wait till his vacations so he could take off. Even though his vacation wasn't actually suppose to start till Monday he would always manage to get out of work early on Friday so he could leave and get and few hours down the road. He got to go to every state except 2 he never got to go to Alaska or Hawaii because Emma refused to fly. He loved the mountains and made lots of trips to Colorado and Wyoming. There was even several years that Grandma Nona, Tom, Nona and Missy Jodi and Amy would travel with them. Can you imagine 8 traveling in a travel trailer. We had a lot of great times our favorite trips though were to Jackson Hole Wyoming, Yellowstone Park and Disney World. A lot of Great memories were made. In June of 1996 the radiation Cliff had to take for his cancer was wearing him down so after 43 years he had to retire from John Zink Co. He was later able to resume his traveling and enjoy his retirement. They always bought season tickets to Silver Dollar City so they could go to all the events there and of course so Cliff could ride all the rides. He even rode the new roller coaster there at age 78, and one week before his open heart surgery. The doctors and nurses at the hospital could not believe it.
In July of 2014 we were told the cancer was back and even more aggressive. He was told Chemo could help with the pain and maybe slow it down some, so for 4 months he went through chemo.
Cliff wanted to take one last trip so Tom said where do you want to go and we will go. So Tom and Nona took them on their last trip to Colorado. A lot of lasting memories were made on that trip. He spent the last of his time surrounded by his family, friends, and amazing Church family.
