Chris Coello
Columbus Christopher Coello passed from this life on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home at the age of 88 years. He was born June 9, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri, the youngest son of Charles and Bertha (Dial) Coello.
Chris was united in marriage to Dorothy Price in St. Louis, Missouri, while on leave from the U.S. Navy at the age of 18 years. Dorothy was 16 years old. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Chris worked at Wagner Electric Co. as an electrician in St. Louis. In 1970, the family moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Chris became an insurance salesman for Farmers insurance Group, traveling the entire state of Iowa. In 1976, Christ accepted a position as manager for an insurance company in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Chris and Dorothy moved to the Baptist Retirement Village in Cleveland, Oklahoma in 2007, where they lived until May of 2013, when they moved into the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home due to health concerns.
Chris was nicknamed "Torchy" growing up because of his flaming red hair; becoming known as "Uncle Torchy" to his nieces and nephews. He and his young sons enjoyed watching the St. Louis Arch being built in the early 1960's. Chris loved to cook, as evidenced by his many cookbooks and recipe collections. Chris had a sweet and gentle spirit -- to know him was to love him. He loved to read, to watch movies, to laugh, and spend time with his beloved wife, Dorothy. He will be greatly missed.
Christ is survived by his wife Dorothy, of the home, and his son Dennis, of St. Louis. Chris was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, his Son Gary and his son Robert.
A memorial service was held at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home on Monday, September 16, at 3:00 pm to celebrate his life.
