Charles Ray Brazeal Sr., a beacon of light and love, passed away on the 4th of July, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, and joy. Born on April 10, 1935, in Oologah, Oklahoma, to Ernest Eural and Roszella (Wright) Brazeal, Charles grew up to be a man of strong character and unwavering spirit, touching the lives of everyone he met with his kindness and warmth.
Charles was a man who believed in the power of education and the importance of lifelong learning. He graduated from Collinsville in 1953, a milestone that marked the beginning of a life filled with achievements and service. On July 10, 1954, he married the love of his life, Mary Lou Maddux, in Arkansas. Together, they built a beautiful life, first in Bakersfield, California, then in Sapulpa and Collinsville, Oklahoma, where they raised their two children, Chuck and Cathi.
A patriot at heart, Charles served his country with honor in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957. His dedication to service continued long after his honorable discharge, as he became a guiding light for many as a minister for the Free Will Baptist Church’s. His unwavering faith and ability to inspire others were hallmarks of his ministry, as he led by example, showing the way to a life of purpose and devotion.
Charles's zest for life was evident in his many passions. He was an avid golfer, finding joy in the challenge of the game and the beauty of the greens. His musical talents were a source of delight to all who had the pleasure of hearing him play the guitar, steel guitar, and piano. His love for horses was more than a hobby; it was a reflection of his connection to nature and the simple pleasures of life.
Above all, Charles cherished time spent with his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Mary, a loving father to his children, Chuck and Cathi, a doting grandfather to his five grandchildren, and a proud great-grandfather to his eight great-grandchildren. His sister, Faye Swift, along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends, will remember Charles for his generous heart and his ability to make each person feel special and loved.
Though Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Eural and Roszella Brazeal, his brother, James, his sister, Helen Stephens, and his granddaughter, Mary Brazeal, his spirit lives on in the memories and the lives of those he touched. His legacy is one of compassion, resilience, and the enduring power of love.
As we celebrate the life of Charles Ray Brazeal Sr., let us remember the lessons he taught us: to approach each day with enthusiasm, to nurture the bonds of family, to serve others with a joyful heart, and to embrace our passions with open arms. Charles's life was a testament to the belief that with faith, hard work, and a positive attitude, anything is possible.
In his passing, Charles leaves behind not just a void but a path illuminated by his example, a path that encourages us to live fully, love deeply, and laugh often. His story is not one of an ending but a continuous ripple of influence, inspiring us to be better, to do more, and to cherish every moment.
Let us honor Charles's memory by living as he did—with courage, with grace, and with an unwavering commitment to making the world a brighter place. Farewell, Charles Ray Brazeal Sr., until we meet again, may your journey be as joyous and as fulfilling as the life you led among us.
