Bobby "Bob" Joe Kellogg

February 17, 1936 — January 25, 2021

Avant

Bobby J. Kellogg of Avant, Oklahoma entered heaven’s gates on January 25, 2021.

Bob was born February 17, 1936 to William Harry and Alice Lucille (Deaver) Kellogg of Avant. He was the youngest of four children. He grew up in the  Avant area attending high school there until joining the United States Air Force in 1954.  Bob married Janette Emile Murrie August 5, 1957 in Avant, where they raised their family after returning from the USAF base in Del Rio, Texas. Bob left the Air Force to take over the operation of the family’s gasoline station in Avant in 1966 but soon joined Phillips 66 Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He started his career with Phillips in 1967 in the plastics division but quickly became an integral part of the team at Applied Automation. He worked closely with research and development to design an innovative technic for gas chromatography and retired in 1997 as a Senior Instructor.  After retirement he continued to work as a contractor for Applied Automation until 2000. While Bob was well respected as a technology expert and embraced the digital era, his legendary guitar playing was what he was most known for.  He attended church in Avant for most of his life, playing guitar for the Lord, and spent the last 15 years as a member at the Skiatook Freewill Baptist Church. His love for God was present in everything he put his hand to but his dedication to God, using his musical ability in service to Him was by far the one thing he enjoyed most. His talent was a blessing to many.  He was also an avid golfer and was known to have a great sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Pearl Irene Kellogg (1921),  Violet Pauline Harrell (2008), and one brother, Richard L (Roy) Kellogg, (2010).

Bob leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Janette, of Avant, son, Richard and wife, Jean of Newcastle, daughters Angela Hensley and husband, James, of Claremore, Brenda Hicks of Avant, and Mindy Jo Englett and husband, John, of Avant. Bob enjoyed family gatherings and his eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren knew his love for them. He leaves behind a legacy of caring and dependability that will not be forgotten.
