Funeral services for Billy Joe Oates will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2015 in the Sien-Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Fred Oates Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in the Rest Haven Cemetery in Sperry under the direction of the Sien-Shelton Funeral Home.
Billy Joe Oates, age 65, of Sperry, died at 2:25 p.m. Sunday, February 1, 2015 at the Hillcrest Medical center in Tulsa.
Billy was born August 16, 1949 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Samuel Kinnard and Minnie Maxine (Queen) Oates. Billy grew up and received his education in the Cherokee and McClain schools. Billy married Judy Causby in 1971 in Tulsa and made their home in Turley. In 1987 Billy married Pamela Ware in Sand Springs and made their home in Turley. Billy was an auto body worker and an auto mechanic and had also co-owned with brother Fred Oates, Oates Turley Auto Salvage in Turley. Billy was a tech at the Tulsa Speedway, liked working on cars, racing cars, working on classic cars, liked motorcycles, and liked going to the casino.
Billy was preceded in death by his mother and father, two brothers, one sister and by a sister-in-law.
Billy is survived by his five children; Samuel Causby, Michelle Causby, Jodi Grooms, Shauna Hayhurst and Courtney Oates, one brother; Frank Oates, two sisters; Diana Sue Torix and Frances Foster, twelve grandchildren, one great grandchild, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Music for the services will be; “One Wing In The Fire”, “The Old Rugged Cross”, “ I’ve Got More To Go To Heaven For”, and “Daddy’s Hands”.
Casket escorts for the services will be; Josh Rooks, Josh Hayhurst, AJ Boris, Lesley Brummett, Dustin Turley and Robert Foster. Honorary casket escorts for the services will be; Chris Oates and Kenneth Foster.
Funeral services and interment are under the direction of the Sien-Shelton Funeral Home
