Memorial services for Betty Lee Smith will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the Avant United Methodist Church with Pastor Earleen Reedy and Rev. Linda Grounds, officiating. Private family interment will follow at a later date.

Betty Lee Smith, age 78, of Avant, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 11:20 p.m. Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the St. John Medical Center in Tulsa.

Betty was born February 10, 1938 in Amarillo, Texas to Jack and Clara (Wilhite) Johnson. Betty grew up and received her education in Texas, Nelagoney and Avant where she graduated in 1956. Betty married Clyde Smith on November 2, 1956 in Avant. Betty was the secretary for Avant Public Schools for 33 years retiring in 2003 and all the kids would know her as Ms. Betty. Betty liked crocheting, making blankets and throws anywhere from 50 to 75 a year and would take them to Veterans, assisted living centers, Youth Services in Pawhuska and the Children’s Hospital at St. Francis. Betty also liked gardening and watching her grandchildren play sports.

Betty was preceded in death by her mother and father and by two brothers.

Betty is survived by her daughter: Cathy Tarwater and husband Bill, four grandchildren: Andi, Renea, Taylor and Billy, three great grandchildren: Lexi, Casey and Josie and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family of Betty Lee Smith entrusted her care and services to the Sien-Shelton Funeral Home.
