Alice (Russell) Berkenbile

Alice Russell Berkenbile of Worden, IL died Saturday, February 6, 2016 after a long illness. She was 63.

Alice was born in Tulsa, OK and grew up in the nearby town of Skiatook.  She was one of six children born to James and Ruth (Miller) Russell.  In 1971, she married her high school sweetheart, David Berkenbile. They grew up together, took turns putting each other through university and medical school, and in their spare time, raised four sons.  Alice taught elementary school in Bixby, OK.  Later, she managed the offices of her husband’s medical practices in Kingman, AZ and Alton, IL.

Alice is survived by a host of family and friends, including her husband, Dr. David Berkenbile of Worden, IL; sons and their wives: Dave and Cathy Berkenbile of Edwardsville, Alan and Kim Berkenbile of Mt. Sterling and Chris and Cassandra Berkenbile of O’Fallon, MO; six grandchildren, Lily, Vyla, Ava, Nick, Emily and Jackson Berkenbile; brothers, Jim Russell of Stillwater, OK, John Russell of Rogers, AR and Joe Russell of Sapulpa, OK; and a sister Ruth Ann Russell Roberts of New York.
Preceding her in death were her parents, youngest son, Benjamin Berkenbile, and sister, Margaret Russell.

Visitation 4-7 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2016 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights.
A service will be held there at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 13; Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to Samaritan’s Purse International Relief.
